Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another. –Marva Collin

A New Month and Getting Excited About PLAYS!

Troy counts fifteen friends in our circle. We are missing Daniel and Nathaniel. We wished them well. Troy writes “Music” on our calendar.

T:

Troy, what do you notice about our calendar today? It’s full! April is over! It is a new month today. It is now the month of May. My friends, do you remember why we wrote a star on the 30th of May?

Quinn:

That’s when our movie is going to be done!

T:

Yes! We cannot wait for the premiere of our movie! I am thinking of the ending sound in the word music. What words start with the CK sound?

Cian:

Cian!

Alex:

Kept.

Andie:

Caroline.

Gwen:

Alexander:

Josephine:

Camille:

Cup. And Camille. T: Camille is wearing a… Crown!

Quinn:

Caroline:

Andie:

Troy:

Griffin:

Forest:

Luke:

Naomi:

T:

Ashton, come get a marker. Can you write your name right here? It’s your birthday on this day!

T:

Cian, come get a marker. Can you write your name right here? It is your birthday on this day!

T:

Griffin, come get a marker. Can you write your name right here? It is your birthday on this day!

T:

Friends, we have so much to celebrate this month. We have 3 birthdays!  It is our last month of school. When this month is over, we only have 3 days left in June. We have so much to do this month. We have to finish our plays! Camille’s play is today! Does anyone want to talk about anything about the Plays Project so far?

Caroline:

Are we going to act out everything that we did?

T:

That’s a good question. We will not be doing any acting that day. It will be all done! Miss Kopp and I have been working hard to produce our movie behind the scenes. We are all going to be an audience together. It is kind of like a movie. We have seen the trailer. When you go to a movie, what does it look like? What does it feel like?

Griffin:

You have popcorn and smoothies.

Alex:

Popcorn and candy.

Naomi:

Not candy, but popcorn.

T:

Naomi is right. We will not have candy, but we will have popcorn at our movie premiere.

Andie:

When I go to the movie theater with my grandma and papa I get popcorn.

Troy:

At home, Colton makes something with the popcorn. He puts fruit snacks in it. It was so funny.

T:

How do you get into a movie?

Quinn:

They scan our body.

Alex:

To make sure we don’t have any candy.

Alexander:

You have to pay.

T:

Do you think we should make moms and dads pay to come and see our movie?

Students:

No!

Cian:

We have to get tickets.

T:

Why would you need a ticket?

Naomi:

To pay. To watch the movie.

T:

Guess what. You don’t need to pay. But you DO need a ticket. We have tickets for all of you! Let me show you. This is just another way to make your families excited to come to our movie premiere. Did our trailer make them excited to come? Students: Yes!

Troy:

I hope my mom likes mine.

T:

That’s a good statement. I think your families are going to enjoy every single play you have all created.

Camille:

Are we going to have more chances to act out the other stories that we made?

T:

Boys and girls, that’s a good question. We had over 100 stories! That would be a lot of plays to make. Each friend has made one play. However, we have sent all the stories you have written home with you. So, if you want to make a play about a certain story you wrote at home, you can!

Ashton:

My mom and dad will like my movie because my mom likes Mickey Mouse.

Andie:

My cousin will like it.
